Grant"s Lessons Part 12: Stepping on G

No, this is not as bad as the title sounds........I promise.

Grant likes to sleep on the floor. His short legs, which Marybeth calls his chicken legs, don't reach up all that far.  So, there are times that the floor is just easier for him to fall asleep on. (This doesn't take into account the hot days when he finds a spot on a non-carpeted floors and just stays there)

When I walk by him during those moments when he is asleep, I want to pet him but I don't want to bend down that far.  A conundrum.  That belly is just asking to be rubbed.

I use my foot to rub his belly. Grant doesn't seem to mind, it is almost like he enjoys getting stepped on.  Almost.  If anyone else (other than Marybeth of course.  She is the light of his world!) tried to step on him in any way, shape or form, they would find out the strength of his jaw.

But I am different.  He knows me and I have made lots of deposits in his love bank so when I approach him with my foot out near his exposed belly, he doesn't flinch.  My foot rubs his belly for a few seconds and then I let him go back to sleep.

I would love to say all my relationships have this dymanic but alas they do not.  But my goal is to get to the place where everyone that I care about can say: "If you want to step on me, go right ahead.  I trust you."

So thanks G for teaching me how to trust. It took about a good two years for you to fully trust me and I hope that I have made it worth it for you.  Where's that belly?

New Years Resolutions 2014

It is that time of year again, resolutions time!

There have been some people saying that they need to be goals rather than resolutions because resolutions now have a negative connotation.

Whatever you call them, it is good to have something to shoot at! And, here are mine...

1. Maintain my weight at approximately 210 lbs.  I want to keep this as a constant goal to keep at a consistent weight that fits my frame.
2. Recertify myself as a CFRE.  The CFRE designation is important for me in my career overall.  Recertification is every three years and 2014 is my year.  Also, I don't want to have to take the test ever again! (This is one is well on its way.  I have much of the documentation filled out online already.)
3. Double Sequoia.  SSG had a good year last year but with a few projects coming up I think it can double for this year.  This is a stretch so we will have to see how it goes.
4. Shoot a round of 90.  I am getting back into golf again and my goal is to shoot 90 for a round of 18 holes (not at Medinah, that will take a number of years and lessons by the dozens!). I am committed to taking quite a few lessons as soon as the weather breaks.I will need them!

A thought in the back of my mind is to finish up my masters degree that I started and turn it into an MBA. We shall see.....
