Grant"s Lessons Part 12: Stepping on G

No, this is not as bad as the title sounds........I promise.

Grant likes to sleep on the floor. His short legs, which Marybeth calls his chicken legs, don't reach up all that far.  So, there are times that the floor is just easier for him to fall asleep on. (This doesn't take into account the hot days when he finds a spot on a non-carpeted floors and just stays there)

When I walk by him during those moments when he is asleep, I want to pet him but I don't want to bend down that far.  A conundrum.  That belly is just asking to be rubbed.

I use my foot to rub his belly. Grant doesn't seem to mind, it is almost like he enjoys getting stepped on.  Almost.  If anyone else (other than Marybeth of course.  She is the light of his world!) tried to step on him in any way, shape or form, they would find out the strength of his jaw.

But I am different.  He knows me and I have made lots of deposits in his love bank so when I approach him with my foot out near his exposed belly, he doesn't flinch.  My foot rubs his belly for a few seconds and then I let him go back to sleep.

I would love to say all my relationships have this dymanic but alas they do not.  But my goal is to get to the place where everyone that I care about can say: "If you want to step on me, go right ahead.  I trust you."

So thanks G for teaching me how to trust. It took about a good two years for you to fully trust me and I hope that I have made it worth it for you.  Where's that belly?
